Big win for improved opportunities in the digital workspace!

Dec 2021 by MARIA FORSBERG

Readynez part of £4m UK skills programme for improved opportunity in the Digital workspace.

Readynez, the training provider famous for being awarded the Microsoft Learning Partner of the Year award no less than 5 times, was recently chosen to provide Microsoft training and certification as part of a new, bespoke programme to improve diversity in the digital sector thanks to a partnership between Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Serco and Readynez.

Following robust conversations with digital employers, the Combined Authority identified a number of barriers to entry into digital roles including a lack of skills and Certification.

Throughout the 22-month contract, the Digital Careers Upskill Programme will address these gaps by targeting priority groups including women, the ageing population and low-paid workers

The new programme, referred to as the ‘Digital Careers Upskill Programme’, aims to improve the career opportunities with official Microsoft Certifications for these priority groups.

The training has been made possible thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing £42m from the European Social Fund for its three-year Skills for Growth programme, which is aimed at tackling skills gaps identified by businesses across the city-region.

Frank Højgaard CEO for Readynez: “Certification and upskilling as a way to acquire more talent in the digital workspace is a central concern for us.

“The IT industry in Europe is needing a staggering 1.000.000 tech workers according to the EU, and there is just no way to fill all of those positions with the available experienced workers, or even with trained tech people from university.

“IT recruiters need to change their whole approach and start looking at the talent, not the experience. When the talent is there, we can train them to do anything. There is no question, that Greater Manchester is really moving ahead of the game enabling their local businesses with Microsoft certified talent.

Delivered across two strands, the Microsoft Certification programme will focus on reskilling people working across a range of sectors to get into new digital roles as well as upskilling those already working in the digital, creative and tech industry so they can progress further.

Councillor Bev Craig, Greater Manchester’s new portfolio holder for Education Skills, Work, Apprenticeships and Digital:

“We are home to the largest digital and creative cluster outside of London but to continue our growth and reach our ambitions of becoming a world-leading digital city-region, we need to invest in our residents and support our businesses.”

“We know through talking to employers in the digital sector that there’s a gap in mid to senior level roles, which highlights a need to create more opportunities for entry level talent who can then progress.

“Further to this, supporting the creation of a more diverse workforce will lead to innovation and business growth through productive and relatable decision making.”

As outlined in the Combined Authority’s Local Industrial Strategy, the Greater Manchester Skills for Growth programme focuses on supporting employed people across priority sectors including digital, retrofit, manufacturing, life sciences, hospitality and others.
