A Canadian Partner's Guide to Dynamics 365 F&O Competency

For Canadian technology providers, achieving a Microsoft Partner Competency in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is a significant differentiator. It signals deep expertise and a strong market presence. This guide outlines the specific performance and training requirements your organization must meet to earn either a Silver or Gold competency.

Understanding the Two Tiers of Competency

Microsoft offers two levels of partnership competency: Silver and Gold. Silver demonstrates consistent capability and commitment, while Gold showcases superior expertise and a proven track record within a specific technology area. Your choice will depend on your business goals, team capacity, and revenue performance.

Key Requirements for Competency Achievement

Regardless of the tier you are targeting, there are two primary pillars to qualification: meeting performance thresholds related to revenue, and demonstrating your team's technical skills through certification exams.

Performance and Revenue Thresholds

Your company must meet specific revenue goals and ensure new customers are correctly associated with your organization.

• For Silver Competency:Your company must earn at least US $100,000 in Cloud Revenue from Dynamics 365 services (including Enterprise Plan, Unified Operations Plan, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Retail, Talent, Team Members), and also have earned at least US $50,000 in Cloud Revenue from the same set of services.
• For Gold Competency: The requirements increase significantly. Your company must earn at least US $300,000 in Cloud Revenue from the specified Dynamics 365 services, and also have earned at least US $150,000 in Cloud Revenue from those same services.

A note on customer association: Any customers acquired after March 29, 2019, must be linked to you as the partner of record via the incentives claims process to count towards your competency.

Team Certification Paths

Building a certified team is non-negotiable. The requirements scale based on whether you are pursuing Silver or Gold status.

The Path to a Silver Competency

To qualify for Silver, your company must have a minimum of 5 individuals pass the following series of exams:

1. Core Exam (All 5 individuals): Everyone must pass Exam MB-300: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Unified Operations Core.
2. Functional Exam (All 5 individuals): Each of the same 5 people must also pass ONE of the following functional exams:
   • Exam MB-310: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Financials
   • Exam MB-320: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Manufacturing
   • Exam MB-330: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Supply Chain Management
   • Exam MB6-898: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Talent
3. Technical Exam (2 of the 5 individuals): Finally, 2 of those 5 certified individuals must pass the technical exam:
   • Exam MB6-894: Development, Extensions and Deployment for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition

Elevating to a Gold Competency

Achieving Gold status requires a much larger pool of certified experts. Your organization must have at least 15 individuals complete the certification track:

1. Core Exam (All 15 individuals): All 15 team members must pass Exam MB-300: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Unified Operations Core.
2. Functional Exam (All 15 individuals): Each of the same 15 people must also pass ONE of the functional exams listed below. Notice the addition of the Retail exam for the Gold path.
   • Exam MB-310: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Financials
   • Exam MB-320: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Manufacturing
   • Exam MB-330: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Supply Chain Management
   • Exam MB6-897: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Retail
   • Exam MB6-898: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Talent
3. Technical Exam (5 of the 15 individuals): The technical requirement also scales, with 5 of the 15 certified individuals needing to pass:
   • Exam MB6-894: Development, Extensions and Deployment for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition

Note on exam validity: Please be aware that the retired exams MB6-895 and MB6-896 remain valid for competency calculations until August 31, 2020.
